RESPITE CARE

Reliable relief for the person who is always on call.

Respite care gives family caregivers time to rest, work, attend appointments or simply step away while their loved one receives non-medical support at home.

THE SHORT ANSWER

What families should know first

Respite care is temporary or recurring support that gives a family caregiver protected time away while a Peacemaker caregiver follows the agreed home-care routine.

Respite can be planned before a crisis

Families do not have to wait until exhaustion. Regular coverage can protect work, sleep, relationships and the ability to keep providing care over time.

  • A few scheduled visits each week
  • Coverage during work, appointments or family events
  • Help during a transition or unusually demanding period
  • Longer or overnight coverage when fit and availability are confirmed

What Peacemaker needs to understand

  • The routines the family caregiver normally handles
  • The person's communication and mobility needs
  • The exact schedule and care address
  • What helps the person feel comfortable with someone new

A calm handoff

Before the first shift, the care plan should make the caregiver's responsibilities and boundaries easy to understand. We stay involved if the schedule or care needs change.

Important: Depending on location, care needs, requested hours and caregiver availability, services may begin within 48–96 hours. This is not a guaranteed start time.
